The stories we tell our children have never been more important. Now more than ever, we need great stories that inspire imaginations, foster modern values and can empower our children to build a better world.
The Idea
One evening, a father was reading a fairy tale to his two young children. Lying there, with the little ones in his arms, he noticed something strange. All the princesses in these fairy tales needed rescuing, and their most important characteristic was their beauty.
The Changes
He did not like that at all, and believed that great fairy tales should inspire and empower children instead of limiting them to tired clichés and stereotypical messages. While reading, he started changing little words here and there. A 'beautiful' princess became a brave one, and he saw the sparkle in his daughter's eyes!
The Start
This simple premise: one word changes everything, led to the birth of Fairy Tales Retold. Gone are damsels in distress, homogenous characters and patriarchal messages; replaced by thrilling adventures, vibrant characters and empowering narratives! Our first book, a retelling of Snow White, was awarded the Kimi Seal in 2020 and has recieved widespread critical and public acclaim.
